Strutter of the Week: Imarri Perry

What do you like most about Strutters? I like the environment the most. I’m able to express my love for dancing and I’m not looked at like I’m crazy. J

What are your plans for after high school?

After high school, I originally wanted to attend TCU, but after attending the Rangerette Showoffs this year, I’ve been looking more at Kilgore College. TJC has also caught my eye and I think that if I practice hard enough and get better at dancing, then I could try out for either of their dance teams.

Who do you look up to and why?

I look up to Miss Turner when it comes to dancing. I can see her love for dance. She likes everything and everyone to look performance ready but she makes sure we are having fun while we do it. I admire her hard work.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“Our greatest glory is never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

The official start to the pre-season kicked off last Saturday with the Annual Maroon and White Interdisciplinary Scrimmage game.

The Bulldogs showed their stuff last Saturday morning and are “ready for the season to start,” according to JISD Athletic Director Antwain Jimmerson.

“We still have some things to work on,” said Jimmerson, but the foundation is there.

The Bulldogs next scrimmage Daingerfield at 9 a.m. Saturday at W.F. Lockett Stadium. There is a $2 gate fee for the game.

Bulldawg Burger Challenge is Saturday

By Sara Whitaker, Editor

The Jefferson Bulldogs receive monetary support from Bayou Bakery and Café on Saturday  as owner Traci Spellings extends a new opportunity for the community to engage in the “Bulldawg Burger Challenge.”

If patrons can finish “The Challenge,” the burger is free. While a challenge may seem easy, these ingredients are intimidating. This meal consists of a one pound hamburger with three slices of bacon, two onion rings, three different cheeses (American, Swiss and Ghost Pepper jack) and fried jalapenos on a salt and pepper bun and includes the completion of a 24 oz. soda and an order of French fries. If the challenge in unfinished, the meal is $25; if fully consumed, it is free.

JHS Majorettes set the baton high

By Sara Whitaker, Editor

Jefferson High School (JHS) Majorettes are composed of seven young women who exemplify excellence and strong character. With both veteran and novice twirlers, this squad makes a commitment to work together and challenge one another as they strive to bring Bulldog spirit to the community.

“It was really good,” said Head Majorette Taylor Foster when asked about Kilgore College Topps and Twirling Camp on July 22-25. “There was a lot more to learn this year. It was challenging. We had two people in fire, two in knives, two in tricks and dance, which is dancing while we twirl.” Foster, a junior, and freshman Jazmine Johnson trained with fire batons. All seven majorettes learned a routine from the Kilgore Rangerettes.
