Omission

Editor’s Note: Due to a typesetting error, the last paragraph of the story on Adolphus Barnett in last week’s issue was accidentally incomplete. The Herald regrets the omission and is reprinting the last paragraph below.

Adolphus Barnett was born on September 2, 1923 in Kellyville, just outside Jefferson. His war stories are fresh in his mind yet buried deep within his memory. The 2015 culture is a stark contrast to the tranquil days of horse drawn carriages and community in which he was raised.  This quiet, humble man resides with his wife and family on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. It is appropriate this warrior from the Buffalo Soldier Unit lives on the street named for the historic icon who helped set so many free. Barnett is a liberator of a different kind. The battles he fought paved the way for Dr. King’s message to be delivered and lived out. They both changed history and advanced freedom.
