Thank You!

Letter to the Editor:

As many of you know, my husband passed away very suddenly and tragically on April 26. I wanted to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everyone.

When I had to make that horrific call to 911, the dispatcher was professional, and courteous, she helped me to stay calm and to get the necessary information out. When the first officer arrived, he was so kind and respectful. As other emergency personnel began to arrive, they were nothing but helpful. Every person who responded to this tragedy was professional, and courteous.

There has a been a tremendous outpouring of support and love from the entire city of Jefferson. Coworkers,  neighbors, even people who only know us by name have been wonderful.

Billy would tell people that he met all the time that he loved Jefferson. This is where he was  happy. I have always said that families are made in the heart, not the home. So to all our Jefferson family, Thank You.

Officers to Pay Tribute

Local Law Enforcement will join in the tribute to Deputy Darren Goforth of Houston at 11 a.m. today to coincide with his funeral in Houston.

Officers will turn on their lights and convoy from Texas Hwy 49 and U.S. Hwy 59 into downtown.

The public is invited and requested to take a moment of silence as the officers drive past.

According to a story posted on brietbart.com, “Deputy Goforth was shot execution-style at a gas station on Friday night. The officer was in uniform and was putting gas in his patrol car at a Chevron station in northwest Houston.

“Texas has sustained a deliberate and heinous crime against a law enforcement officer in Harris County,” Texas Governor Abbott said in a letter to Harris County Judge Ed Emmett after the deputy’s murder. “Texans revere the men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line every day to protect and service their communities. As such, it is fitting that Texas flags should be lowered to half-staff in memory of this dedicated and brave deputy sheriff.”

The Texas flags located at the state capitol in Austin will also be lowered to half-staff in honor of this directive.”
