Michael Pena definitely channeled his inner Ricardo Montalbán to recreate the role of Mr. Roark, the proprietor/host of “Fantasy Island.”

At any moment, I expected the impassive Pena to utter the magic words, “Corinthian Leather,” and “Tattoo” would appear. Tattoo, actually Jimmy O. Yang, does make an appearance, but that comes at the end, rather than the opening frame.

Critics have not been kind to this comedy, horror, fantasy, morality tale mashup. Rotten Tomatoes gave “Island” only 8 percent, but I… (a subscription to the Jimplecute is required to continue reading this article).
