It is now scholarship season at the high school with applications coming to the counselor’s office every day. Since scholarships are a crucial part of college life, here is some advice for seniors who might be struggling to fill them out:

  • Practice good time management. It is better to get the applications filled out BEFORE the due date instead of waiting for the last day to turn them in.
  • Keep an updated resume. Every scholarship will want to know what you are involved with, so it is wise to keep an updated list of everything you do from community activities to school organizations.

  • Start collecting letters of recommendation. Most scholarships will ask for a letter of recommendation or three so instead of waiting for the last minute, start a collection going and make plenty of copies of them.

  • Get someone to proof your essays. Some scholarships require an essay and it will be a lot easier if you get someone to help check them for any mistakes you might have made.
