F or a buddy cop kids movie about a secret agent who is turned into a pigeon, “Spies in Disguise” deals with some surprisingly deep and well-executed themes. Lance Sterling, voiced by Will Smith, is a hotshot spy who eats up the attention from both fellow agents and enemies alike.
He’s the golden boy among the agency until video footage shows Lance stealing a devastating weapon, and suddenly, Lance is public enemy number one. Which brings us to Walter Beckett, voiced by Tom Holland, a nerdy, awkward scientist who worked in the agency’s gadget lab until Sterling fired him for his unconventional approach to inventing spy gadgets.
Walter wants to change the game and create an environment that values mercy and compassion, not explosions and firepower, but no one is taking him seriously.
