Sheriff, Commissioner Offices Top Local Ballots
Both Marion County political party chairmen say they have received light early interest from potential candidates for the March 3 primaries. A 30-day filing period begins Saturday, November 9 for candidates to formally declare they will seek office.
“I’ve had some inquiries,” Republican County Chair James Parsons said Tuesday. “I’ve mailed out some applications to be on the ballot. I haven’t had a landslide of interest in running for these offices.”
Parsons noted some people may be waiting to see who else comes out. Democratic Chair Ricky Harrington agreed, noting no one has actually approached him about running. It’s a situation Harrington would like to change.
“I would love to have a Democrat run for every seat in the county,” Harrington said. “I think we need to level the voices in this county. Whether it is county commissioners court or the school board, I would like to have more diversity.” (a subscription to the Jimplecute is required to continue reading this article).
