Jefferson ISD trustees learned Tuesday of the resignation of Junior High Social Studies teacher Lance B. Reese. Garland Police officers arrested Reese, 31, on August 30 on a charge of sexual assault of a child.
Jefferson ISD immediately suspended Reese following the arrest. Reese, who lived in Longview, was taken into custody by Longview PD. He was then transferred to Garland PD and is free on $25,000 bond.
The Jimplecute was able to obtain a copy of the arrest report through a Texas Freedom of Information Act request, which indicated Garland police officers arrested Reese at the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office detention center and obtained a seizure warrant for Reese’s cell phone.
Garland authorities refused to answer Jimplecute questions concerning the age or sex of the alleged victim. “The City declines to produce additional information responsive to your request,” Mark G. Mann, Sr. Assistant City Attorney, wrote.
“The basis for the City’s belief that the withheld information is not subject to disclosure is fully set forth in the enclosed request for an attorney general opinion.” Reese was in his second year of teaching. He had been an intern with Marshall ISD during the 2018-2019 school year and had begun a probationary year with JISD.
Superintendent Rob Barnwell in a press release following the arrest said Reese would be replaced at JJHS and the district was in communication with parents of students there.
