I didn’t grow up in Mississippi, but reading Susan Cushman’s Friends of the Library made me feel like I did. The collection of short stories follows the travels of fictional author Adele Covington as she visits small town libraries as a part of her book tour.
Each story begins with a simple map, the approximate location of the town, and a name. The name (or names) is the person or people who Adele meets because this is what the anthology is ultimately about — people.
