Growing up in SE Oklahoma, the only gecko lizards I ever saw were being sold by Ringling Brothers Circus when we saw them in Texarkana. Today, in our area, they’re everywhere!
They’re all around the house, and during summers, it’s hard to open the front door without one trying to scurry inside! Lizards exist all over the world in sizes ranging from just over ½” to 24”. In our part of the country, they usually attain a size of 6”.
They will scurry to avoid being caught, but are surprisingly docile when caught. Young boys hoping to gross out young girls often let the gecko bite their ear lobe and then hang from it as they approach a female!!!
But what of these harmless but fascinating creatures? What can they do for us? (a subscription to the Jimplecute is required to continue reading this article).
