Fires in the Amazon Forest

We’ve all heard about the fires in the Amazon forest which supplies 20% of the oxygen in
our atmosphere. There’s no question that smoke is blackening the sky for up to a thousand miles away, but just maybe it’s time for rethinking the overall situation.

My first “What’s going on here” concern is the repeated statement that the forest provides 20% of our life giving oxygen. Well, the majority of our oxygen comes from the ocean by microorganisms (phytoplankton) that make it, plus worldwide ocean evaporation. Estimates range from 50-85% of our total oxygen supply. Not knowing the exact percentage, let’s just say 55%.
