From Staff Reports
Jefferson ISD trustees Monday took steps to lower property tax rates in the district.
Business Manager Mike Wood explained to the board how the state now requires districts to compress (lower) M&O tax rates this year.
Superintendent Rob Barnwell recommended the M&O tax rate for this coming year to go down from 1.04 to .97 cents per $100 valuation.
Barnwell noted that, since local taxable values have gone up, the I&S tax rate will go down slightly too.
Barnwell recommended the Board consider setting a proposed tax rate of .97 cents for the M&O tax rate and an I&S tax rate of .085892.
