Obituary | Martha Green Mauldin

MarthaMauldinMartha Green Mauldin passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on June 4, 2019.

A long-time educator and administrator, Martha started her career teaching music and reading in Marshall, Texas, after graduating from East Texas Baptist College in 1954.

After receiving a Master of Education from the University of Southern Mississippi, she was an educational diagnostician for Longview Independent School District. She then served as principal of Spring Hill Elementary School for eighteen years.

Beloved, respected, and admired, Martha will be missed by teachers, colleagues, students, and many friends. She always had a gentle demeanor and understanding heart for those near her. Her passion was teaching children to read.

Born on February 22, 1932, Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Ellsworth Green and Melissa Redus Green of McLain, Mississippi, and her eleven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband James Ellison Mauldin, Sr. of Longview; her three sons, Dr. James Ellison Mauldin, Jr. and wife Maureen Stolle Mauldin of Longview, Benjamin Green Mauldin and partner Tony Cutugno of New York, and Dr. Daniel Bruce Mauldin and spouse David Jordan of Houston; five grandchildren, James Ryan Mauldin, Katie Mauldin Hopkins and husband Jon Hopkins, Patrick Benjamin Mauldin and wife Savanna Pratka Mauldin, Collin Thomas Mauldin, and Meghan Elise Mauldin and spouse Hannah Salley, and James Randall Mauldin; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Katherine Hopkins, Olivia Rose Hopkins, Benjamin Adam Hopkins, and Joseph Ryan Hopkins.

Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. There will be a private family graveside service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Martha Mauldin Memorial Fund benefitting the Spring Hill Elementary Library in care of Spring Hill State Bank, P.O. Box 9580 Longview, TX 75608. Contributions can also be made at local Longview branches at 3700 Gilmer Rd or 202 Hollybrook Dr.
