Friends of Jefferson Animals President Kimberly Parsons says business in abandoned puppies and kittens has been brisk. “I’m pretty sure the person who first said, ‘It’s raining cats and dogs!’ must have been an animal rescue volunteer during a Texas spring,” Parsons stated in a Facebook post.
“This is FOJA’s first puppy/kitten season and our first Texas severe weather season – and let me tell you, we’ve been busy.” Calls, messages and emails have rolled, she said with several each day common.
“Fortunately this month, we have been able to reunite several pets with their people, find bottle feeders for some abandoned kittens, rescue a box of dumped pups from a busy highway, and just this week, some Good Samaritans rescued a kitten hit by a car,” Parsons said.
“We were able to find donors to cover the surgery it needed to survive.” The organization has worked to raise funds and plan its membership kickoff event scheduled for Saturday, July 6, at the Made in the Shade Courtyard.
FOJA has also set up community education events, organized adoption events for the animals in their care – and more.
