Weekly Devotional | Resurrection Confidence

Rev. Seth Buckner, Heritage Baptist Church

This Sunday, churches around Marion County will gather to recognize the greatest event in the history of the world. Tiger Woods winning another Masters and the burning of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris are tiny events in comparison to the resurrection.

What do you have confidence in? Psalm 118:8 tells us, “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” Psalm 20:7 says, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”

Have you ever watched your favorite team play a game on replay? You already know that your team wins the game — how does that make you feel? Pretty confident, right? The resurrection of Jesus gives us that same confidence. We already know who won!

We also know we will be winners someday by simply putting our confidence in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. “There is more evidence that Jesus rose from the dead than there is that Julius Caesar ever lived or that Alexander the Great died at the age of thirty-three.”

This great quote from Billy Graham sums up the belief of Bible believers. It is something that the Christian can put complete trust in. Confidence in the resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the believer’s faith. Romans 4:24-25 says, “If we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”

Heritage Baptist in Jefferson invites you to share in our Easter celebration. 8:30 A.M. sunrise service, followed by a delicious breakfast. Our morning worship will begin at 10:30 A.M. Our musicians and choir have prepared for weeks. Candy scramble afterward for the kids. Come share in our resurrection confidence.
