Local restaurant owner, Julie Testa, of the Hamburger Store, was the big winner
at the Opera House Theatre Players annual fund-raiser, Chocolate Sunday,
this past Sunday.
Testa, who, along with her husband, Sammy, has been in the restaurant business for a number
of years and took over The Hamburger Store from her mother some years ago. She has learned
to cook specialty items and serve the famous Buck Morris hamburger and other items made
famous many decades ago when he first opened the restaurant in downtown Jefferson. It is a regular drawing card for tourists and locals alike with its eclectic East Texas menu and special pies.
Testa’s large chocolate pie with mountain-sized egg meringue won this years first place in the adult category . Second place went to Sheila Langbartels for Peanut Butter Cheese Cake topped with Chocolate Reese Cups, while third place went to Janet Moore for her Chocolate Crackle Cookies.
