The Lady Dawgs wrapped up the 2018-2019 season with a loss in the Bi-District playoff game to the Harmony Lady Eagles on Monday night, 43-27. Unable to generate much offense, the Lady Dawgs shot only 29 times in the game.
Harmony scored first with a couple free throws early in the game. Mackenzie Jordan answered with a 3-pointer to give Jefferson a 3-2 advantage. The Lady Eagles dumped in 2 baskets to regain the lead, but Hannah Welch scored with an assist from Tierrani Johnson about halfway through the quarter. Mikiah Allen followed up with a bucket to edge Jefferson back in front, 7-6, the last time the Lady Dawgs would lead in the game. Following a Lady Eagle score, the first quarter ended with Harmony on top, 8-7.
The second quarter was all Harmony, as they racked up 9 points before Jordan scored with less than 30 seconds left in the half. The Lady Dawgs were down 17-9 at the end of the second quarter.
Jordan nailed a couple free throws early in the third quarter, Jefferson’s first free throw attempts of the game. Harmony had a 7-point run before Elaina Langbartels drove inside and scored from the left side. Welch ended the quarter with a field goal, but Harmony led 26-15 going into the final frame.
Harmony went on a 13-1 run in the fourth quarter, with Jordan sinking a free throw early on. Welch then went 2/2 at the line, and the Lady Dawgs began driving the lane. Johnson hit a layup and a free throw, and then Welch scored down low. Jordan went 4/4 at the charity stripe late in the game, but Harmony came away with the 43-27 win, ending Jefferson’s round-ball season.
Jordan was the point leader for the Lady Dawgs with 12; she brought down 3 rebounds and had 2 blocks. Welch put up 8 points and pulled down 5 rebounds. Langbartels led Jefferson in rebounds and blocks with 10 and 4, respectively; she also had 2 points and a steal. Johnson had 3 points, 3 rebounds, a steal, and 2 assists, while Allen scored 2 points and had a rebound and an assist.
