Lady Dawgs Drop Game to Daingerfield

The Lady Dawgs celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday  but were unable to pull out a win. The Daingerfield Lady Tigers topped Jefferson 66-36 in the final regular season game of the year.

Daingerfield scored first only 15 seconds into the game and then quickly scored twice more to take a 6-0 lead. Tierrani Johnson got the Lady Dawgs on the board, but the Lady Tigers scored 8 more points in a row, most of them off of turnovers. Hannah Welch and Katie Holliday each put up a basket, but Daingerfield continued to score. Johnson and Elaina Langbartels scored near the end of the quarter, and Jefferson found themselves in the hole, 29-11.

The Lady Dawg defense allowed only 8 points in the second, with Langbartels pulling down 7 rebounds in the quarter. Johnson hit a free throw, and Langbartels knocked down a mid-range jumper for a 37-14 halftime score.

Mackenzie Jordan and Johnson each nailed a bucket early in the third quarter, but then Daingerfield went on a 7-point run to increase their lead. Jaden Carter added a spark to the offense with a 2-pointer on an assist from Johnson. Carter hit again after a Lady Tiger field goal. Johnson went 2/2 at the free throw line, and then Carter drained a 3 near the end of the second for a 54-27 score going into halftime.

Daingerfield went 8/16 at the line in the fourth quarter, accounting for most of their points in the final frame. Holliday and Carter scored early in the quarter, and then Jordan sank a 3-pointer with 2:35 remaining in the game. Mikiah Allen ended the game with a field goal.

Tierrani Johnson led the Lady Dawgs with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Jaden Carter had 9 points and 3 rebounds. Mackenzie Jordan scored 5 points and had a rebound. Elaina Langbartels had 4 points and 2 steals, and she led the team in rebounds with 10. Katie Holliday put up 4 points and pulled down 3 rebounds for the night. Hannah Welch and Mikiah Allen each finished with 2 points.

The Lady Dawgs have advanced to the Bi-District round of the playoffs and will take on Harmony Monday at 6:30 at the Spring Hill High School Gymnasium.
