The Lady Dawgs lost an away game to Tatum’s Lady Eagles on Friday night, 67-33. Tatum jumped out to an early lead, and Jefferson was unable to come back.
The Lady Eagles took advantage of some early turnovers to put 13 points on the board before Maddie Bristow nailed a 3-pointer in the first quarter. Hannah Welch put up 2 free throws, and the Lady Dawgs found themselves in the hole 28-5 going into the second quarter.
Mackenzie Jordan had an excellent second quarter, racking up 7 points. Tierrani Johnson hit a free throw, and Nia Garrett made a bucket, but Tatum’s offense was unstoppable. Jefferson was down 40-15 at halftime.
Tatum started the third quarter with a 5-point run, but Jordan hit a basket to break up the Lady Eagle scoring. Tatum scored 4 more points before Jordan sank a layup in traffic. Johnson put up a bucket near the end of the quarter, and the Lady Dawgs fell farther behind, 56-21.
The Lady Eagles put up 6 points in a row in the fourth quarter to increase their lead. Jefferson then went on a 7-0 run to narrow the gap a bit. Johnson went in for a layup, was fouled, and made her free throw. Mikiah Allen scored right after that, and then Johnson followed up with another bucket. Jordan finished the game strong with a long 3-pointer and then a steal. She passed to Jaden Carter who put it in the hole for another 2 points.
Jefferson will take on Ore City at Bulldog Gymnasium on Tuesday night for another district matchup.
