Jefferson’s Lady Dawgs wiped out the Waskom Lady Wildcats Tuesday night with a definitive 59-35 victory. Ten Lady Dawgs put points on the board as Jefferson went to 17-5 on the season.
Waskom struck first in the game, taking an early 0-3 lead. Tierrani Johnson scored first for Jefferson, and then Mackenzie Jordan nailed a couple free throws. Maddie Bristow drained a 3-pointer and made a free throw to give the Lady Dawgs their first lead of the game, 8-5. Jaden Carter hit a bucket near the end of the first and Jordan put up another free throw to wrap up the quarter with an 11-8 Jefferson lead.
The Lady Dawgs dominated offensively in the second quarter, putting up 21 additional points before halftime. Waskom scored first with a bucket, a steal, and another bucket to take the lead from Jefferson 11-12. The Lady Dawgs fired back with Johnson and Nia Garrett each hitting a free throw and Johnson also tossing in a layup. The Lady Wildcats nailed 4 free throws for another lead change, but Jordan put Jefferson back on top with a field goal. Brianna Carter scored twice under the basket for a 22-16 lead, but Waskom quickly narrowed the gap to 22-19. The Lady Dawgs went on a 10-0 run with Bristow sinking another trey and Elaina Langbartels hitting a bucket and 2/2 free throws. Mikiah Allen went 3 of 4 at the line, and Jefferson took a 32-19 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Dawg defense was impressive in the third quarter, allowing the Lady ‘Cats only 2 points; those points came on 2 free throws with less than a minute left in the quarter. The Jefferson offense continued to roll, with field goals by Garrett, Jordan, Allen, and Langbartels. Johnson also layed up a shot, was fouled, and sunk her free throw for a three-point play, giving the Lady Dawgs a 43-21 lead going into the final quarter.
Tierrani Johnson kicked off the fourth quarter with a steal that she turned into 2 points, and Hannah Welch followed up with a shot from in the paint. Garrett made a steal and passed to Johnson who earned 2 more points with a layup. Jordan rounded out Jefferson’s 8-0 run with a field goal. The Lady Wildcats then went on a 7-0 run, but Katie Holliday and Jordan each hit a jumper to maintain Jefferson’s lead. Jordan also put up 3 free throws in the last quarter, and Mikiah Allen sunk one to give the Lady Dawgs the 24-point win.
Mackenzie Jordan led the team in scoring with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals and a block. Tierrani Johnson was right behind her with 12 points, 8 rebounds, and a team-high 4 steals. Maddie Bristow put up 7 points and had a steal, while Elaina Langbartels netted 6 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block. Mikiah Allen added 6 points and 4 rebounds and led the team with 3 assists. Brianna Carter was strong at the post with 5 points and 5 rebounds, and guard Nia Garrett had 3 points, a rebound, and a steal. Hannah Welch hit the boards hard with 9 rebounds, and she also scored 2 points. Katie Holliday and Jaden Carter each had 2 points to round out the scoring for Jefferson.
The Lady Dawgs will return to Bulldog Gym for a home game versus New Diana on Friday night.
