The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs came to Bulldog Gym on Tuesday for a battle with the Lady Dawgs. Jefferson overcame an early Hughes Springs lead to win the game 36-30.
Points were scarce for both teams in the first quarter, and the Lady Dawgs found themselves in the hole, 3-6. However, Jefferson had an excellent second quarter, compiling 17 points, while holding Hughes Springs to a mere 6. Both teams put up 7 points in the third, and the Lady Dawgs maintained their lead in the fourth to finish the game 36-30.
Elaina Langbartels led the team with a double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks). Katie Holliday put up 5 points and had a team high 5 steals. Also scoring were: Nia Garrett (4), Tierrani Johnson (4), Mackenzie Jordan (3), Maddie Bristow (3), Hannah Welch (2), and Jaden Carter (2).
Jefferson’s players continued to shoot well from the free throw line, which made a game-changing difference in the last two matchups. Langbartels and Johnson both shot 100% in the Hughes Springs game, while Mackenzie Jordan went 3 of 4, Holliday shot 3 of 5, and Garrett was 2 out of 4.

Jefferson went to 16-4 for the season and 4-2 in district play with the win. They will travel to Daingerfield on Friday for another district matchup.
