Wicker, 73, of Jefferson passed away peacefully on January 3, 2019 in Jefferson, Texas surrounded by family.  Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday January 15, 2019 at Mims Chapel Methodist Church in Avinger, Texas with Pastor Ray Prince officiating, graveside services following at Mims Chapel Cemetery a visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Monday January 14, 2019 at Haggard funeral Home in Jefferson, Texas.

Terry was born January 18, 1945 in Jefferson, Texas to Barnom Carrol Wicker and Violet Adeline Ferrell.

Terry began his music career at the age of 8, playing the banjo, mandolin and guitar.  At the age of 10, he and his brother, Luther opened for Ernest Tubb at the Hughes Springs Hayride.  He continued his musical talent with the band called The Chessmen, consisting of Carlisle Harrell, Tommy Carter, Eddie Cobb and himself, as lead guitar and singer.  He continued playing and singing throughout his life.

At the age of seventeen, he met the love of his life, Beverly Dorgan.  They were married May 6, 1967 and started their journey together, which continued for 51 years, and had one daughter, Shannon.

Terry worked various jobs including Lone Star Steel, Brown and Root until he went to work for the Texas Forest Service in 1973 and he retired from there in 1999; and worked for Bradley Contractors until he fully retired.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and collecting antiques.  He loved traveling, raising cattle, bailing hay, landscaping and gardening (which he loved sharing the produce with neighbors).

He had many encounters with the Lord and loved sharing those experiences, even with strangers at McDonald’s.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson Paxton Shannon.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Beverly Wicker; daughter, Shannon Williams & Jake Kitzmiller; brother, Luther Wicker & Swann; sister, Reba Ball & Pete; granddaughter, Heather Shannon & Chris; grandson, Hayden Williams; granddaughter, Harley Williams; grandson, Holton Capps; great-grandchildren, Preston, Peyton and Purity Shannon; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Canton Irwin, Jim Taylor, Luke Wicker, Michael Wicker, T.J. Hobbs and Terry Lemon.
