Jefferson Boys Go 2-2 in Mt. Pleasant


03The Dawgs played this week in the Tiger Town Tournament up in Mt. Pleasant.  They lost their first two contest to Pleasant Grove and Marshall.  The Bulldogs then bounced back, winning against Wichita Falls and Daingerfield to gain a split in the tournament games.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs lost to Pleasant Grove 54-48 in their tournament opener. Jefferson led 25-24 at the half, and 36-35 after three quarters, but got outscored in the fourth quarter. Christian Shepard was the only Dawg in double figures with 10 points, Kylan Thomas and Lyrik Rawls had 8 apiece, Chrishon Hicks had 7, Dee Black 6, Henry Hill 4, and Josh Thomas scored 3.

Later in the day Thursday, the Dawgs suffered their worst loss of the season as Marshall beat them 75-49.  The game was within reach until the third quarter when the Mavericks outscored the Bulldogs by 14 points.  Christian Shepard again was the only Jefferson player in double figures.  Shepard scored 10, Kylan Thomas 8, Chrishon Hicks 6, Kevin Pinson and Lyrik Rawls 5 apiece, Josh Thomas and Henry Hill 4 each, and Carlos Jackson and Kenneth Bell 3 apiece.

On Friday, the Bulldogs had their way with the Coyotes of Wichita Falls, winning 54-44.  The game was very close until the fourth when the Dawgs were able to pull away for the victory, ending their three-game losing streak.  Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Christian Shepard with 15.  Lyrik Rawls scored 11, Chrishom Hicks 10, and Kevin Pinson also scoring 10.  Josh Thomas had 5 and Kylan Thomas scored 3 points in the game for Jefferson.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs got the better of the Tigers 53-42.  Chrishon Hicks led the way with 14 points, and freshman Josh Thomas scored 12, hitting 3-5 on three pointers.  Jefferson led 29-26 at the half, but it was a big third quarter that put separation between them and Daingerfield.  The Dawgs led 44-32 after the third and cruised to the victory to close out their time in the tournament.  Christian Shepard scored 9, Kevin Pinson 8, Kylan Thomas 5, and Lyrik Rawls scored 4.

The Dawgs are 7-4 and travel next to Elysian Fields on Tuesday to take on the 1-10 Yellow Jackets.
