The Dawgs won four games in three days, capping off the weekend with an exciting championship win over Mt. Vernon in Redwater, Texas. They beat Bowie 61-16, Bloomburg 95-30, Redwater 49-21, and finished with the win over Mt. Vernon by the score of 60-55. Jefferson is now 5-1 on the season and are enthusiastic about what lies ahead for their young squad.
On Thursday, December 6, the Dawgs did not have much trouble in their Redwater tournament opening game. The Bulldogs beat Bowie by the score of 61-16, handing the Jackrabbits their worst loss of the young season. The Bulldogs led over the Jackrabbits by the score of 21-4 after the first quarter and pushed their lead out to 36-7 at the half. Jefferson did not let up much in the second half either, outscoring their opponent 35-9 in the third and fourth quarters. Kevin Pinson scored 15 points, Chris Shepard 13, Chrishon Hicks 10, Lyrik Rawls 8, Josh Thomas 5, Kylan Thomas 4, Henry Hill 4, and Dee Black added 2 points.
On Friday, December 7, the Wildcats were no match for the Dawgs as Jefferson defeated Bloomburg 95-30, racing out to a 23-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looking back. The Bulldogs led the Wildcats 47-11 at the half, and 80-22 after three quarters. Jefferson had five players in double figures led by Christian Shepard with 21. Henry Hill scored 13, Chrishon Hicks 12, Kevin Pinson and Kenneth Bell each had 10, Josh Thomas 9, & Lyrik Rawls 8. Everyone that dressed for the team scored in this blowout victory.
Later Friday night the Bulldogs took on the home team and defeated the Redwater Dragons 49-21. Jefferson led almost wire to wire and were able to keep the home crowd subdued on a rainy night. The Dawgs led 23-12 at the half and were able to cruise in the second half. Christian Shepard led all scorers with 12 points, and Lyrik Rawls scored 10, Chrishon Hicks 7, Kylan Thomas and Kevin Pinson scored 6 apiece, K’von Smith 5, and Josh Thomas chipped in 3 points for the victorious Jefferson squad.
On Saturday, December 8, it was time to play for the championship, and the Dawgs were up to the challenge. After a stellar first half, the Bulldogs led 36-20, but Jefferson had to hold off a comeback bid by Mt. Vernon to take the championship. Chrishon Hicks led the way with 13 points, and Lyrik Rawls chipped in 11, and Kylan Thomas scored 10. Dee Black had 7 points, Kevin Pinson 5, Josh Thomas and Henry Hill scored 4 apiece, K’von Smith and Chris Shepard both scored 3.
