New Diana Tournament Wrap-Up

03Lady Dawgs Go 2-1 in New Diana Tournament The Jefferson Lady Dawgs basketball team competed in the Carl Oliver Memorial Tournament November 15-17. They had victories over Spring Hill and Sabine and a loss to Hawkins.

Vs. Spring Hill
The ladies began pool play on Thursday with a 55-38 win over the 4A Spring Hill Lady Panthers. Jefferson led 16-15 at the end of the first and took a 31-24 lead into halftime. The Lady Dawgs outscored the Lady Panthers 12-6 in the third quarter and 12-8 in the fourth quarter to win the game 55-38.

Elaina Langbartels had a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steals, and a blocked shot; she went 3/3 at the free throw line. Tierrani Johnson was the leading scorer with 15 points; she also had 2 rebounds and 4 steals. Brianna Carter shot 100% from the floor and 67% from the free throw line for a total of 8 points; she added 2 rebounds and 1 block.

Hannah Welch scored 6 points and had 4 rebounds. Mackenzie Jordan had 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Mikiah Allen led the team in assists with 6. Nia Garrett had 4 points, two steals, and a rebound, and Katie Holliday finished with 3 points.

Vs. Hawkins
The Lady Dawgs team continued pool play on Friday with a 25-33 loss to Hawkins. Jordan finished the game with 10 points and 3 rebounds, Langbartels had 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and a blocked shot, and Welch ended with 3 points and 4 rebounds. Garrett, Allen, and Ma’Kiya Young each finished with 2 points.

Vs. Sabine
The Lady Dawgs opened bracket play on Saturday with a 52-40 win over Sabine. Jefferson, who had a 30-22 lead at halftime, had three players with double digit scoring. Garrett had 13 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 4 assists. Langbartels grabbed her third double-double of the season with 12 points, 10 rebounds, a steal, and an assist. Jordan was strong on offense and defense with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Welch put up 6 points and had 5 rebounds and a steal.

Johnson had 3 points, 1 rebound and 4 steals, while Jaden Carter had 3 points, a rebound, and a steal. Brianna Carter and Young rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.
The Lady Dawgs are now 3-1 on the season.
