Weekly Devotional | Reflecting Jesus in Our Race

I struggle with urgency—I really do.

I tend to put things off until tomorrow. I sleep well at night, and do not worry much about the future. I guess sometimes that is good, but sometimes this attitude gets me in trouble.

There are some things that a Christian should be urgent about. Jesus’ disciples struggled with that many times as well. In this brief article, I do not claim to have all the answers, but I want to give you one simple thing that we should have an urgency about.

Simply put, we should be urgent in our obedience. Dragging our feet in obedience can lead to destruction. If we know what is right to do, why wait? John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

Reasons to be urgent in our obedience

Because you are thankful for what God
has done for you.
Because He loves you and you love Him.
Because He is Lord.
Because you are new creature.
Because there is a lost world looking on.
Because God rewards obedience.
Because you fear God.
Because you want your prayers answered.
Because sin grieves God.
Because you want to live in joy.

There is a song that my children sing and some of the words go like this: “Obedience is the very best way, to show that you believe. Doing exactly what the Lord commands, and doing it happily. Action is the key, do it immediately, joy you will receive.

Obedience is the very best way, to show that you believe.” The Bible says that Jesus was obedient even in His death on the cross. The least that we can do as followers is obey. Let’s get busy doing that today.
