The Jefferson volleyball team lost a district match to Waskom’s Lady Wildcats at home on Tuesday. The match went to 4 sets: 25-18, 18-25, 16-25, 18-25. In the first set, Waskom took the first point, but senior Elaina Langbartels smashed a kill over the net for the next point. Senior Madisyn Miller added a service point to give the Lady Dawgs the lead, 2-1. The Cats and Dawgs fought for points to an 8-8 tie, before junior Jaden Carter spiked the ball to give Jefferson the lead once again. Each team scored two more points to bring the score to 11-10.

At this point, junior Nia Garrett and Langbartels became an unstoppable duo as Garrett set up Langbartels beautifully for three kills. Miller racked up 5 service points, including an ace, and senior Ar’Tazia Warren aced
two more serves. Garrett then sent a bruising kill over the net to widen Jefferson’s lead to 21-12. Waskom tried to mount a comeback, notching 6 more points in the set, but Celeberity Jeter-Coleman added a kill and a block to stop their progress. Jefferson took the first set 25-18.

The second set started out well for the Lady Dawgs, as Miller served up the first point. The Lady Cats took the next two points, but then Warren added a kill to tie the game, 2-2. The Waskom hitters got on a roll and gained a sizeable lead, 6-11. Jeter-Coleman knocked down three kills, and Tierrani Johnson crushed two from the back row to keep Jefferson in contention. Waskom also continued to rack up points, but Johnson and senior Hannah Welch had several spectacular digs to help control the Lady Cat hitters. Despite two kills each by Carter and Langbartels, the Lady Dawgs dropped the set, 18-25. Waskom came out firing in the third set and capitalized on several

Jefferson errors, jumping to a 0-7 lead. Langbartels had an amazing kill shot to end their run, and then Mackenzie Jordan took over serving with the score at 1-7. Jordan aced two serves and Langbartels killed two more balls to narrow Waskom’s lead. Warren then put up an ace to give the Lady Dawgs their first lead of the set, 11-10. However, the Lady Cats came charging back and took a one-point lead, 11-12. Langbartels added a kill and an aced serve to put Jefferson back ahead, 13-12. The Lady Dawgs only managed three more points in the set, and Waskom won it, 16-25.

The Lady Dawgs took an early lead in the fourth set, thanks to a kill by Welch. Waskom fought to go ahead, but a kill by Carter and an ace by Garrett gave Jefferson the lead once again. Jakaila Ventimiglia and Langbartels each added a kill, and Jordan aced two more serves to put the Lady Dawgs up, 14-11.
