The Lady Dawgs Volleyball team lost a district match in Hughes Springs on Friday. The match went to 4 sets: 11-25, 25-21, 13-25, 14-25.
The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a substantial lead in the first set, 7-17. Senior Celeberity Jeter-Coleman smashed a kill shot over the net to get the Lady Dawgs back in the game, but Jefferson could not rally enough to challenge. Hughes Springs took the first set 11-25.
The second set started off pretty evenly, with the two teams trading points to a 2-2 tie. The Lady Mustangs began to pull away, taking a 3-7 lead, when senior Elaina Langbartels killed a shot and then added a service point to bring the score to 5-7. Hughes Springs increased their lead to 11-18, when the Lady Dawgs began to take over. Senior Ar’Tazia Warren was fantastic at the service line, notching 3 aces. Langbartels added 2 kills to bring the Lady Dawgs into contention with a score of 18-19. Jaden Carter ended the set with a kill, and Jefferson took the second set, 25-21.
In the third set, an early kill by Nia Garrett and 2 kills by Langbartels made the score 6-7. Hughes Springs increased their lead to 8-12, but a block by Jeter-Coleman ended their rally. The Lady Mustangs pushed to a huge 12-24 lead, when Senior Madisyn Miller made an excellent kill. However, the Lady Dawgs could not overcome the insurmountable lead, and the set went to Hughes Springs 13-25.
The beginning of the fourth set had the teams battling to an 9-9 tie, but then the Lady Mustangs started racking up points to take the lead. They won the set 14-25, taking the win for the evening.
Langbartels ended the night with 8 kills and 2 blocks. Mackenzie Jordan added 11 assists and 7 kills, and Nia Garrett added 8 assists and 5 kills.
The Lady Dawgs will travel to New Diana to take on the Lady Eagles on Tuesday, October 2.
