The Lady Dawgs volleyball team traveled to Waskom Friday night for their fourth road game in two weeks. Though the Lady Dawgs fought valiantly, they fell to the Lady Wildcats in 5 sets: 18-25, 25-20, 25-18, 18-25, 13-15.
The Lady Wildcats took an early 4-8 lead, but with Nia Garrett at the service line and Ja’Kaila Ventimiglia at the net, the Lady Dawgs came barking back, 9-10. Waskom pulled away again mid-set, but a kill by Elaina Langbartels and an ace by Ar’Tazia Warren challenged their lead. The Lady Dawgs were formidable in the third set behind excellent serving by Jordan (2 aces), Langbartels (2 aces), Warren (1 ace) and Garrett (1 ace). Waskom gained a 9-11 lead, but Jefferson chipped away with stellar setting, hitting, and digging. Jordan, Warren, Summer Love, and Hannah Welch showed superior digging skills, while spikes by Jaden Carter, Warren, Langbartels. and Ventimiglia proved to be too much for the Waskom blockers. The Lady Dawgs took the set 25-18.
The fourth set began as a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Love and Welch cleaned the floor with some outstanding digs, while the hitters came with full force. Ventimiglia slammed 4 kills, and Jordan, Langbartels, and Carter combined for 4 more to keep the Lady Dawgs in contention. Waskom fired back with some kills of their own to pull away and win the fourth set 18-25.
The teams fought for dominance in the final set, with the Lady Cats going ahead 3-6. Jordan pitched in a beautiful block, Garrett aced a serve, and Langbartels killed 3 times to give Jefferson a fighting chance.
