The Jefferson Lady Dawgs volleyball team had an away game in Elysian Fields on Tuesday evening. They were defeated by the Lady Yellowjackets in three straight sets, 25-27, 13-25, 6-25.
Jefferson was very strong in the first set of the night. Elysian Fields took an early lead, but the Lady Dawgs fired back with kills by Mackenzie Jordan and Jaden Carter, and with quality serving by Jakaila Ventimiglia. EF regained the lead, but Ar’Tazia Warren answered with a block and two aces, and Elaina Langbartels added an ace and two kills to put JHS back in the lead, 19-17. The score went back and forth, with eleven different servers between the two teams, until the Lady Yellowjackets finally managed a two-point advantage to take the set from the Lady Dawgs, 25-27.
The second set proved more difficult for Jefferson, as EF quickly jumped out to a substantial lead over JHS. The Lady Dawgs tried to rally with kills from Celeberity Coleman, Jordan, Langbartels, and Nia Garrett, but fell short, 13-25.
In the third set, Jefferson fell behind early, and could not recover enough to challenge. The set ended 6-25 to give Elysian Fields the match.
Mackenzie Jordan was all over the court with 5 assists, 4 kills, and 5 digs. Garrett ended the evening with 6 assists, while Aliyah Cochran and Hannah Welch cleaned the floor with 7 and 10 digs, respectively. Langbartels covered the net with 8 kills.
