The Jefferson Lady Dawgs volleyball team traveled to Ore City for a District 15-3A matchup on Friday. The Lady Rebels held on through 3 sets to take down the Lady Dawgs.
The score went back-and-forth at the beginning of the first set, with Jefferson and Ore City tied 3-3. Ore City took over at that point with 5 straight service points to take the lead 3-8. The Lady Rebels committed a couple of errors, and JHS roared back into contention. Ore City once again showed their serving skills and extended their lead to 9-14. Jakaila Ventimiglia added a couple service points and Mackenzie Jordan had a well-timed block to make the score 12-15, Lady Rebs still on top. Ore City added 5 more points in a row, and Jefferson could not scrape together enough points to challenge, losing the set 19-25.
The Lady Rebels started off strong in the second set, taking an early 1-3 lead. Jefferson tightened things up with kills by Ventimiglia and Langbartels, tying the game at 6-6. Ore City went on a scoring spree and took a huge lead, 10-18. Hannah Welch, Mackenzie Jordan, and Ar’Tazia Warren added service points, and Langbartels aced a serve, but the Lady Rebels took the set over JHS 19-25.
After an early tie in the third, the Lady Rebels came on strong to dominate the set. Ventimiglia and Jordan added kills, Welch chipped in service points, and Jordan, Langbartels, and Ventimiglia rallied with some forceful blocks, but the Lady Dawgs could not overcome 8 service points in a row from Ore City. OC ended the set with a decisive 11-25 victory.
Mackenzie Jordan finished the night with 6 assists and 8 digs, and Hannah Welch had 10 digs.
Jefferson is on the road again next Tuesday, when they visit Elysian Fields for another district game. The matches will begin at 4:30, with the JV teams taking the court at 4:30, with varsity to follow.
