The Jefferson Lady Dawgs lost a road game to Daingerfield on Tuesday night. Jefferson went the distance in 5 sets, winning the first and third, but falling short of the win.
In the first set, early kills by junior Jaden Carter and senior Elaina Langbartels got JHS on the board. The Lady Dawgs fell behind mid-set, but regained the lead with junior Nia Garrett at the service line. Daingerfield tied the game, but with outstanding service by senior Hannah Welch, kills by junior Mackenzie Jordan, and a block by Ar’Tazia Warren, the Lady Dawgs took the first set 25-21.
In the second set, the Lady Dawgs fell behind early. Down by 10 points at one time, the Jefferson girls rallied, but it was not enough, and they dropped the set to the Lady Tigers 18-25.
The third set was all Jefferson. The Lady Dawgs were down 3-4, when Langbartels took over at the service line. Jaden Carter set the net on fire with 4 kills, and Langbartels added an ace and 10 service points to put Jefferson ahead 13-4. Excellent service by Garrett and senior Summer Love and kills by Jakaila Ventimiglia, Aliyah Cochran and Langbartels gave the set to the Lady Dawgs, 25-10.
Daingerfield took over in the fourth set. The Lady Tigers pulled away from a 4-4 tie with strong service, and the Lady Dawgs could not regain the lead. Despite kills by seniors Warren, Welch, and Langbartels, Daingerfield took the set 15-25.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 1-4 lead in the fifth set. Jefferson tried to rally, but could not overcome several service errors. Daingerfield put away the set 10-15 to win the game.
Notable statistics for the Lady Dawgs were:
- Nia Garrett – 16 assists and 12 digs
- Elaina Langbartels – 12 kills, 19 service points, and 3 aces
- Summer Love – 15 digs
Jefferson (9-17, 0-2) will take on the Lady Rebels in Ore City on Friday, September 14 at 4:30.
