The ingredients for a perfect dinner-date spot often include exceptional ambiance, professional service, great food and a lovely view.
Oh, and a glass or two of wonderful wine.
Enoch’s Stomp Vineyard & Winery, located about 15 minutes from Jefferson, has become a favorite for those who appreciate a peaceful setting atop rolling hills and a sip or two of wine. But it’s also ideal for a special dinner at the log-cabin restaurant, open on Friday and Saturday nights.
We started our date with the Caprese Hummus Platter ($13), a large portion of creamy basil and garlic pesto hummus topped with balsamic-marinated tomatoes. The platter also comes with grilled pita bread, a cucumber salad and sweet peppers – the latter of which were especially refreshing when dipped in the hummus. The portion was plenty for two.
For the entrée, we decided to share the Smothered Pork Chop ($26), a slow-roasted bone-in chop covered with a Cajun brown gravy.
It was delectable.
“I don’t know when I’ve had a better pork chop,” announced my date (also known as my husband).
We complemented our dinner with side dishes of bacon brussels sprout leaves – tasty if you like that particular vegetable — and mashed potatoes seasoned with a mild, tasty addition of wasabi.
But this being a winery, let us not forget the wine. We opted for a glass of 2016 Villard Blanc, a dry, buttery white wine similar to Chardonnay, and a glass of 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon. Both went well with our meal, but the Cab was exceptional. Putting on our wine-snob hats, we noted that red wine isn’t supposed to be paired with white meat. But who cares; it was wonderful.
As was the entire date night.
