FRESH Youth Mentoring Programs hosted a Kickin It with Our Slip and Slide Kickball Fundraiser for two recent shooting victims, Malik Cannon and Tybo Williams, Sunday July 22 at the Jefferson Community Center.
“We hope to lift the spirits of the community and to help the families affected by the tragedy,” April Taylor said afterwards.
Organizers say the turnout was excellent.
“It was a great turnout,” Taylor said. “It was so great, all they kids are asking to do it again before school starts.”
Cannon,17, and Williams,16, were wounded June 26 in a mid-day assault near Family Dollar.
Charges have been filed against three individuals.
For the past two years FRESH has had more than 500 people attend their free Fall Festival. The group also offers a Best of School program.
“We try to do things that incorporate the family,” Taylor said.
FRESH stands for Future Respectful Educated Successful Humble.
