MOVIE REVIEW | “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation”

Contributing Writer

Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation is animated, but it has quite the star power in the leading roles. The cast includes Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg (wait, they’re not the same person?), Selena Gomez, Joe Jonas, Kevin James, Jim Gaffigan, Fran Drescher, Keegan-Michael Key and many other notable names.

moviesThis being the third installment in the series, most young fans will recognize the family, led by Dracula (Sanndler). Instead of entertaining at home, the group decides to embark on a monster cruise trip. Everything goes swimmingly until Dracula becomes smitten with the captain of the ship, Ericka (voiced by Kathryn Hahn). It seems she has a secret that could cost the monsters everything.

The movie has gotten mixed reviews so far, but its stars are out there promoting it as earnestly as they can.

“This time, you get to see the characters step out of the hotel in this crazy, cool, creature-filled world,” says Keegan-Michael Key, who plays a mummy in the movie. “Everyone you love is back – and more.”

The Hotel Transylvania series has become a franchise that kids seem to love and parents can trust. The humor probably isn’t going to be side-splitting to anyone over, say, the age of 8, but that doesn’t mean it’s not enjoyable. Some of us recall a similar franchise from way back in 2001: Monsters Inc., where creatures clocked in to work to scare humans. The jokes were made for little kids – but the humor was not lost on their parents. The same can be said for this group of sweet monsters.
