On April 28, 2018, the City of Jefferson will help the residents in town with the disposal of community-wide spring cleaning of their properties.
The City will provide roll-off dumpsters to dispose of debris. They will be located at 501 Haywood St. at the Marion County Community Center and at 104 N. Alley St. across from Brookshires. Citizens are allowed to bring debris, trash, limbs, and leaves to these locations and dispose of them free of charge.
State law prohibits the disposal of liquids such as paint, oil, or any other petroleum-based products. Appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners are not allowed. The law also prohibits the disposal of tires, car batteries, or any other hazardous chemicals including pesticides or herbicides.
City Administrator, Kevin Huckabee added, “I am anticipating that we can get some volunteer groups together to assist in cleaning up the roadways in their neighborhoods. The City of Jefferson will have large heavy-duty trash bags available for anyone or any group that chooses to help clean-up the Jefferson roadways. Mayor Carey B. Heaster, Jr. and I will personally assist with driving the roadways with a trailer and picking up the bags of trash that are full and taking them to the roll-offs.”
Show the pride you have in your neighborhoods by trimming and cleaning up your property to show it off to the best advantage.
