Candidates for city, school posts to speak at April 19 forums

Jefferson mayoral hopefuls along with candidates for the Jefferson City Council and Jefferson ISD trustee will have an opportunity to address the public at a forum Thursday, April 19.

The event at the Jefferson Institute on East Austin Street will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Marion County Chamber of Commerce, KTAL Channel 6 and the Jefferson Jimplecute will sponsor the evening.

Channel 6 Newswoman Heather Wright will moderate the forum for the mayoral candidates.

Four candidates have filed for the May 5 election to become the next mayor of Jefferson.

Charles Bubba Haggard, Stanley Davis, Stephen Wulff and incumbent Carey B. Heaster, Jr. have announced for the post.

Jimplecute Publisher Bob Palmer will serve as moderator for the forums involving candidates for the Jefferson city council and the Jefferson ISD board.

David Westbrook has filed for Ward 1 alderman.

Running for Ward 2 alderman are S. L. Val Vallery, Tyrani Braddock and incumbent Shawn Humphrey.

Seeking the Ward 3 alderman seat are incumbent Kay McKinnon and V. Hugh Lewis II.

Three candidates have announced for the two seats available on the Jefferson School Board.

Ned Fratangelo is unopposed for Place 6.

Rhonda Jones and incumbent JP Abernathy will vie for Place 7.

“We are excited to help bring this important exercise in democracy to the resident of Jefferson and Marion County,” Kari Anderson, Chamber of Commerce executive director, said.

During the forums for the council and school board seats, questions will be taken from the audience as well as those submitted to the Jimplecute via Facebook and Twitter. Continue to visit for more details.
