Penner Knight Light 4.5.18

Updated:  April 12, 2018

Knight Light
owner Richard Penner shows where the restaurant’s grill area has been moved 14 inches off the sidewalk to make the passage ADA compliant.

In an April 3 called meeting, the Jefferson City Council ordered Penner to remove the bumpout or face having it torn down by city crews. When Penner pointed out that he had already complied, Alderman Shawn Humphrey asked for another meeting to cancel his earlier motion.

City Administrator Kevin Huckabee told the Jimplecute that the city will take no action until the council meets again on April 17.

Huckabee noted some councilmen believed Penner had committed to completely remove the structure. Penner, however, said Mayor Carey Heaster, after seeing that the sidewalk was clear, had indicated the reduced bumpout met city expectation.
