The competition was divided into two categories, one for student cooks and one for home cooks.
All entries were judged on taste, appearance and presentation by two judges, Kathy Witt of Lake o’the Pines and Lisa Egner of Linden.
While the Judges went about their business, attendees donated at the entrance and were seated while they enjoyed the entertainment presented by Peyton Pierce, Wes Hamilton and Hannah Howard, vocal and instrumental trio. Also performing on the keyboard was 8 yr. old Riley Sanders of Hallsville who readily filled up his “tip” cup with his “magic fingers show”.
Winning first place in the student division was 16-yr-old Kisten Giddens of Marshall who entered a dozen of Aunt Margaret’s Cupcakes (pictured above). Coming in second place was Courtney Holt, a 25-yr-old student also from Marshall who entered her Brownie Surprise. Third place went to Raleigh York of New Boston, Texas with her Cupid Cakes. Also, with delicious chocolate entries were sisters Melody and Avery Stickle of Woodlawn. Each of the students received a Chocolate Sunday Participation Certificate Award and the top three selections were given gifts to encourage their cooking skills.
In the Home Cook category, first place went to Kathy Lambert’s S’Mores Cheesecake; second place was awarded to Robbie Fortune’s Chocolate Peanut Clusters; while third place ended in a tie between Iva McLeary’s Hershey Cake and Kitt Williams Oreo Truffles. Honorable mention went to Mary Spearman and her Chocolate Pie and Valerie Ayers for her Chocolate Chip Cake with Strawberries and her Chocolate Fudge. Prizes and ribbons were presented to the winners and Chocolate Sunday Participation Certificates were awarded.
The Players would like to issue a “thank you” for the great help and cooperation by the owner and staff at the restaurant in helping to make this annual fund-raiser a successful event.
