Lady Bulldogs Fall to EF In Regular Season Finale; Jefferson Girls Face White Oak Again For Playoff Seeding – Bi-District Next Week

By Charlie Chitwood

Jefferson’s Lady Bulldogs wrapped up another successful regular season Tuesday night, even if it ended in a 68-51 loss to 23rd-ranked Elysian Fields. The Lady ‘Jackets ran the table on District 16-3A and now Jefferson – tied with White Oak at 11-3 in district play – gets another date with Lady ‘Necks to determine 2nd and 3rd place seeding ahead of next week’s Bi-District Playoff.

Jefferson (25-7 overall) will again face a White Oak that it defeated at home and lost to in White Oak. Friday night’s tie-breaker is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff at New Diana High School and the winner will face the third-place team from District 15-3A, possibly on Tuesday in Longview High’s Lobo Gym.

The identity of that Bi-District opponent remains to be seen. A three-way tie for 2nd through 4th place exists and the three teams (Sabine, Harmony and Troup) have their own knot to untie. If Jefferson beats White Oak, the Lady Bulldogs will face the third-place team from 15-3A. If Jefferson loses, the Lady Dawgs get the second-place squad out of the same district.

Tuesday night’s loss to Elysian Fields followed a 61-24 Senior Night victory over Waskom on Friday. Elaina Langbartels and Jamya Smith both had huge nights and combined for 42 points.

Jefferson jumped out to a 17-7 first quarter lead and never looked back. After taking a 28-11 into the halftime locker room, the Lady Dawgs outscored Waskom 14-9 in the third quarter and 19-4 in the fourth for the decisive win.

Langbartels drained four three-pointers among her eight field goals en route to a game-high 22 points. Smith, meanwhile, was busied at the free throw line and made 13 of 16 foul shots before dropping in three buckets in the fourth quarter.

Mackenzie Jordan scored in each quarter and ended the night with seven points while Ma’Kiya Young chipped in two late baskets for four points. Ja’Kayla Jones (three points), Mikiah Allen (two points) and Tierra Hines (one point) each chipped in on a productive night.
