The Jefferson Bulldogs picked up wins last Friday and Tuesday night, improving to 22-5 on the year and remaining perfect in District 16-3A play at 12-0 with two games left before the post-season begins.
Treston Dowell’s squad rolled over Waskom 75-27 before ousting a chippy Elysian Fields squad, 64-53, on Tuesday in EF.
Dee Mitchell led a well-rounded effort by hitting a pair of three pointers among his seven field goals and finished with a game-high 18 points in the victory over Waskom, played before a nice home crowd in Bulldog Gym. Every player on the roster got into the scoring action with Eric Gipson posting 11 points to be the only other Bulldog with double-digit point production.
Lyric Rawls, Kylan Thomas and Cameron Hicks each added nine points to Jefferson’s tally while Kepha Luster (seven points) and Taylor Smith (six) were right behind.
Jefferson pounced on Waskom early, leading 23-4 by the end of the first quarter before relaxing in the halftime locker room with a commanding 47-6 lead. The visiting Wildcats found a little pop in the third, out-scoring Jefferson 12-10 before the Bulldogs turned it back in the fourth with an 18-7 run that led to the big final.
Curtis Henry (four points) and Jordan Randle (two) also contributed to Jefferson’s effort.
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season with two more games – on the road Friday night to face Ore City before returning home for a Senior Night date with Beckville.
