Comedy Roles up for grabs

Jefferson’s Opera House Theatre Players is scheduling try-outs for two comedies being considered for the next stage production. The dates are Jan. 27, Feb. 3 and 17 at the Episcopal Church Parish Hall at 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Other times may be available by special arrangement by calling 903-665-2310.

Under consideration for production are A Coupla of White Chicks Sittin’ Around Talking that features two females in a kitchen setting. The women are neighbors in surburban New York and are having a rough day when Maude finds out her husband is off on a weekend spree with his secretary and she can’t get rid of the new pesky neighbor from Texas who comes to visit. This long-running off-Broadway hit starred Susan Sarandon and Eileen Brennan in terrific roles which may be played by actresses from twenty to fifty.

The other play being considered is a relatively new production called Spreading It Around by the hard-hitting comedy writer for Phyllis Diller, Lily Tomlin and Joan Rivers; Londos D’Arrigo. It involves Angela, a wealthy widow in an up-scale retirement community who is tired of handing out money to her unappreciative children. She starts the “S.I.N. (Spending It Now) Foundation” to give to those truly in need. This terrifies her greedy son, driving him to devise a plan to have her committed. Featuring delicious roles for adult and mature actors, this poignant family comedy has played numerous theatre in the US and Canada and continues spreading the laughs around. Needed are three men and two women, ages 30s to 70s.

The play selected is scheduled for rehearsal in March with production in April.
