The Jefferson Quilt Show will open its doors for the 15th year at the Jeffersonian Institute at 120 E. Austin Street during the weekend of January 26-28, 2018. Hours for the show will be 9-5 on Friday and Saturday, and from 10-3 on Sunday.
The show, “Quilts on the Bayou”, is sponsored by the Jefferson Quilt Show Committee and the Jeffersonian Institute. It is traditionally the fourth weekend of January. The event is looked forward to with anticipation by quilters and non-quilters alike, just to see the creations that the textile artists have created and brought to exhibit. It is amazing how such a quality show can be put together by such a small group of women, when most shows are brought together and organized by large Quilt Guilds.
Whether you consider quilting to be a skill, an art, or a talent you will be amazed at the beauty and the colorful displays that will on exhibition. This is a Viewers Choice Open Show with cash awards, demonstrations, lectures, door prizes, and special exhibits. There will be a special ribbon award for the “Best Use of Red & White in the Quilt.”
Special Lecturer for event will be Paula Barnes of Red Crinoline Quilts.
Various vendors with fabrics, quilts, kits, patterns, and quilting machines will have goods on display at the show. There you will also be able to purchase your raffle tickets for “Hanging Gardens”, which was quilted by Laura Deaver and pieced by the Jefferson Regional Quilt Alliance & Friends. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each, or with 6 for $5
There will be several awards given for the show entries, and at the end of the show on Sunday the Viewer’s Choice will be announced. Viewers may vote for their favorite quilt.
Other awards to be given will include Best of Show, Color, and First, Second, and Third-place ribbons in the various categories of entries.
Admission for the event will be $5 for adults, $4 for children 6-12 yrs. of age, and for $9 a 3-day Show Pass is available.
Come and enjoy the beauty and artistry of quilting. We’ll be looking for you there!
