So now for The Showdown.
Jefferson’s Lady Bulldogs dispatched both New Diana and Waskom on the road during the past week, keeping their District 16-3A record at a spotless 6-0. Friday night, they’ll wrap up the first half of district play at home against Elysian Fields in a battle of the two remaining undefeated district rivals.
Jefferson (20-4, 6-0) coasted through their last two contests, winning big at New Diana (67-26) and at Waskom (69-39). Jamya Smith had a huge hand in both victories, scoring 16 points in each game while Deivya Hodge went off for 21 points at Waskom.
Last Friday at New Diana, the Lady Bulldogs wasted little time in running away from the winless Lady Eagles. Jefferson led 15-0 after the first quarter and was up 36-8 at the half. New Diana found a little scoring punch in the third quarter and managed 12 points but was still behind 54-20 entering the fourth quarter.
All 10 Jefferson players got into the scoring action with Ja’Kayla Jones dropping in 11 points to join Jamya Smith in double-digits. Hodge warmed up for her big night against Waskom with nine points while Elaina Langbartels chipped in seven. Tierra Hines and Hannah Welch had six apiece while Nia Garrett and Mikiah Allen posted four points each. Alexis Sims and Mackenzie Jordan each had a basket and two points.
Tuesday’s game at Waskom similarly turned into a runaway…
