Tristen Dowell’s Jefferson Bulldogs followed the lead of the Lady Bulldogs in New Diana and Waskom, picking up a pair of 16-3A victories and improving to 14-5 on the season and4-0 in league play.
Dowell’s Dogs gained a 61-41 victory at New Diana last Friday while making Tuesday night’s game a 73-41 winner at Waskom.
Dee Mitchell led the way for Jefferson in both games, scoring game-highs of 20 and 21 points, respectively. He was hardly the only producer though as two others joined him in double digits at New Diana and three teammates scored 10 or more points at Waskom.
In the New Diana game last Friday, Jefferson clawed out of an 11-11 first quarter tie to go up 30-22 at the half. The host Eagles hung around through the third quarter, down 43-32 entering the fourth, but Jefferson raced to the finish with an 18-9 fourth quarter.
Mitchell’s scoring this night was balanced – three three-pointers among six field goals and five-of-nine at the foul line constructed his 20-point game. Taylor Smith scored in every quarter and was next in line with 13 points scored for Jefferson. Kepha Luster finished in double-digits with 10.
Eric Gipson and Kylan Thomas posted seven points apiece while Cameron Hicks and Curtis Henry finished with a bucket apiece.
Tuesday night at Waskom, the Dawgs were again in a tight game…
