George RobertsOn Dec 25, 2017 Rev George F. Roberts left this present life to rest in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on June 8, 1938 to Milton Cleo Roberts and Sally Edna (Cornelius) Humphries. At an early age he went to live with his grandparents, James Frank and Marion Reginald Cornelius, where he remained for the majority of his formative years, receiving his education in the Jefferson School district until his enlistment in the U. S. Air Force. Upon returning from his military obligation he enjoyed spending his spare time playing guitar with a small group of friends in the ArkLaTx area. He attended Barber College in Tyler, TX and became a Master Barber in 1965 and operated his own shop in Jefferson for a short while. In 1972 he completed his electrical apprenticeship at Lone Star Steel, where he worked as an electrician in the rolling mill until 1985. George felt his calling into the ministry at a very early age and in January 1974, finally answered his call and began his quest to fulfill his call. He repented and was baptized in Jesus Name on January 18, 1974, receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost as promised in the scriptures. From that time on, his life and that of his family, took on a totally different path. He began to pastor the Hartzo Pentecostal Church, Gray Community, Texas on April 14, 1981 under a Local License. He proved himself a diligent Bible scholar and was ordained in the United Pentecostal Church International organization on March 31, 1983. This started his sincere and dedicated service of ministering the Gospel of Truth which continued until his death on Christmas Day, 2017.

Bro Roberts was married to the love of his life, JoAnn Peterson, for over 55 years, to whom he gave much credit for helping fulfill his calling as a pastor. He was quick to praise her for her efforts of encouragement and dedication to the work of the Lord. They, together, were blessed with six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, a son, Jeffrey Alan Roberts, two brothers, Terry Roberts and Michael Roberts and one sister, Shirley Jean Sites. He is survived by one sister, Susan Ann Sprayberry of Henderson, TX, his sons, Mark and wife Bonnie of Victoria, TX, Steve and wife Amanda of Natchitoches, LA, and daughters, Kelli Russell and husband Rusty of Hughes Springs, Toni Woods and husband Cody and Shannon Smith and husband Robert of Jefferson, sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, his special sons he loved so much, Marcus Moak, David Smith, Russ Bourque, Jessie Wilder and Eddie Hendricks. His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with a multitude of nieces and nephews, and special friends, Bill Webb, Lowell Martin, Doug Bernard, Chuck Bassham, J. Coon Gossett, Jim Houchin, Curtis Hunt, and Carl Shively.

Pallbearers were his grandsons and nephews, Joshua Sibert, Tyler Roberts, James Haskins, C.J. Woods, Daniel Weir, Joey Bennett, and Jamey Peterson.

Arrangements for Bro Roberts’ “homecoming” were provided by Gorsulowsky Funeral Home, Vivan, LA. Services were Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at Hartzo Pentecostal Church, Jefferson (Gray Community), TX. Rev. (Dr.) Marvin J. Moore, Bay City, TX officiated and was assisted by Bro. Eddie Hendricks of Pearland, TX. Interment was at the Core Cemetery.
