ONE GOOD THING about the Alabama Special Election to pick a replacement for Attorney General Jeff Sessions – I never, ever want to hear a Republican say again, “I vote for the man and not the party.”

—–AS YOU SETTLE in before the fireplace or crawl under the covers on these cold nights, you might spare a thought or a prayer for the folks who have to be out in this weather. Certainly, our first responders deserve our gratitude for braving these frigid temperatures, but our 24-7 society puts a lot of other folks on the road and facing arctic gusts at 2 a.m.

—–JERUSALUM HAS been the capital of Israel for some time. Trump only recognized something that was a fact. Pretending the capital was still in Tel Aviv to protect Palestinian sensitivities was the false card.

There is even the possibility recognition of Jerusalem as the capital could lead to a West Bank accommodation and a withdrawal of Israeli settlements. I smell a deal.

—–OF COURSE you realize my reference to smelling a deal was only a figure of speech. With this cold I could not smell a tire burning next to me.

—–JOKE DE JOUR: Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates. “In honor of this Holy season,” Saint Peter said, “you must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into Heaven.”

The Englishman fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. “It’s a candle,” he said.

“You may pass through the Pearly Gates,” Saint Peter said.

The Scotsman reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys…
