ALL-DISTRICT ACCOLADES CHOCK FULL O’ DAWGS Jefferson Football Team Garners 29 Spots on All-83A List

 The high-scoring 2017 edition of the Jefferson Bulldogs was well represented on the District 8-3A All-District honor rolls, with nearly the entire varsity roster claiming some measure of respect by the district’s coaches. The selections were voted on by coaches after the regular season with release of the list after all district representatives were eliminated from the playoffs.

Jefferson picked up five district-wide superlatives and also had three players – Dee Mitchell, Dee Black and Kepha Luster – earn all-district at two positions.

Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player honors went to junior wide receiver T.Q. Jackson who averaged nearly 23 yards per catch on 38 receptions. Jackson totaled 861 receiving yards and scored a team-best 10 receiving touchdowns. Redwater’s Lavondrick Vaughn and White Oak’s Bo Reddic shared in the honors.

Bulldog defensive end Taylor Smith was named the loop’s Defensive Lineman of the Year after a senior season in which he was tied for the team lead in tackles (137 total), six quarterback sacks and 12 tackles for loss. He also forced four fumbles and recovered three.

At the opposite end of the Bulldog’s defensive front, junior defensive end Eric Gipson had a breakout year and was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year. Gipson shared the team’s tackling title with Smith (137 total) and led the team in sacks (10) and 25 tackles-for-loss. His business in other team’s backfields resulted in 156 yards in losses to Bulldog opponents.

Kannon Glover and Henry Hill also picked up district-wide superlatives, with Glover among six sharing the Utility Player of the Year award and Hill tapped as one of five Special Teams’ Player of the Year. Glover amassed 75 tackles in a variety of rolls and had a sack and five tackles-for-loss to his credit. Hill’s special-teams work was recognized in part owing to 47 tackles and a fumble recovery.
