If Jefferson’s Bulldogs felt any loss of swagger from the previous week’s loss to District 8-3A rival White Oak, it’s probably safe to assume that swagger has been restored after the stunning finish of last week’s 47-37 win over Redwater.
Down 30-27 with just 2:34 to go before a big Senior Night crowd, Jefferson burst ahead for good on Dee Black’s 75-yard run just 16 seconds later. That lead-changing sprint turned into a scoring frenzy when Redwater’s kick-return specialist muffed one and was separated from another to set up quick Bulldogs scores of one and 18 yards. Jefferson went from being down three points to ahead by 17 in a span of just 35 seconds. It was all over but for the crying and Redwater’s final touchdown with 36 seconds remaining.
Black’s touchdown was his only score on the night but the speedy sophomore chipped in with nearly 300 yards of total offense. Tyron Williams was the right man in the right place on four occasions, scoring on touchdown runs of three, nine, one and 18 yards. The performance of the duo should be sending shivers down Farmersville’s backs.
