“Kings man: The Golden Circle” is the sequel to the 2014 original film debut of the James Bond style action spy comedy. While the first one was well received by critics and audiences alike, this one only has audiences keen on it. With a marathon 141 minutes of predictable plot and character development but heavy on gentlemanly manners mixed with CGI enhanced action choreography, “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” compels your attention without requiring the audience to invest too much in the story.
Poppy Land is the secret headquarters of Poppy’s (Julianne Moore) illegal recreational drug empire that desires to operate openly and legally just as the alcohol and tobacco companies do.
A bonafide psychopath and Elton John fan, she makes her $250 billion dollars in profits by kindly asking her team, who are tattooed with 24k gold circles, to carry out her orders.
She also ruthlessly eliminates them if they fail to do so.
Poppy Land’s slogan is “Save Lives. Legalize,” and Poppy is only stopped when Kingsman partners with their Kentucky-bred Statesman counterparts to stop her evil blackmail plan to kill millions of recreational drug users Matthew Vaughn writes and directs the Kingsman series, along with Jane Goldman.
Both born in London with Vaughn the son of an English aristocrat and the godson of King George VI and, the screenplay duo demonstrates their authentic English pedigree in this film about killer do-gooder spy agents who embody the 14th century proverb “manners maketh man.”
“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” (141 minutes) is showing at the Marshall Cinema with an R rating for violence, language, and some drug and sexual material.
